BOX announced that it had filed fraud and damages lawsuit against Baron Power Ltd, Chennai, and S. Arunagiri, its Managing Director, for illegally squatting on BOX’s recently acquired property in the Vikram Sarabhai Industrial Estate, Chennai. S. Arunagiri had legally agreed to vacate the property on June 15th having signed a definitive agreement to vacate the property for a consideration from the previous owner, Mr. Shridhar. Mr. Arunagiri received the 30 lacs from the previous owner Mr. Shridhar and subsequently refused to vacate the premises. Since it has been six months since he has been illegally occupying the premises, BOX has filed a damages suit seeking over 25 lacs in damages from Baron Power and Mr. Arunagiri, as well as monthly damages of Rs. 4.5 lacs for the illegal occupation for the period that he continues to illegally squat in the premises. The suit is pending in the Chennai High Court. In a related incident, Arunagiri’s wife, Amudha Arun locked the Deputy Director of the Instronics Estate in the building, and subsequently assaulted her. The Deputy Director was visiting the property in her capacity as the person responsible for the industrial estate, when the incident happened. The Deputy Director personally filed a criminal complaint and assault charges against Amudha Arun with the Chennai Police. The Instronics Estate also issued a letter to Baron warning of potentially explosive capacitors being stored on the premises right next to a large software company.
